One of the best things about living in St. Simons Island is the small-town charm and family-like atmosphere that gives us a sense of community.
Last week, much of our community gathered at the pier for a Veterans Day Parade and Memorial Service. Local school bands led automobile floats, adorned with children, business owners, former veterans, community leaders and the like, down through the Village shops and restaurants and out to the Casino lawn. I always know it’s time to start walking towards the ocean when I hear the drums outside my office window!
Small crowds of young and old turned out with lawn chairs and picnic blankets to cheer on their loved ones and celebrate our country’s brave military. Even the Glynn County School System closed to allow students to participate in honoring our men and women in uniform.
Each year, myself and others, look forward to these wonderful community events… One of the many perks of life in a small southern town.
