The Golden Isles Council of the Navy League, in partnership with the Liberty Foundation, is proud to announce that the Liberty Belle B17 Flying Fortress is coming to Malcolm McKinnon Airport on St. Simons Island the week of November 8-12.
The Liberty Belle will be present as a static display at Malcolm McKinnon Airport on St. Simons Island on November 9th and 10th, with ground tours available to the public from 3pm-7pm. The Golden Isles Council of the Navy League will also be raffling off tickets at $10 each for B17 flights that will be taking place on November 11th and 12th from 10am-5pm. PROCEEDS FROM THE RAFFLE WILL BE DONATED TO THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT. Ticket drawings will be held at 8pm, November 10th, during a Veterans Day event, also sponsored by the Navy League, to be held at the Casino on St. Simons Island. You do not need to be present to win. Tickets are on sale now.
Georgia-Florida weekend is fast approaching! For those of you who can’t make it to the game in Jacksonville, we invite you to tailgate with Hodnett Cooper at the 2nd Annual Tailgator event. Hosted by Joe’s Pizza and Barberitos in the Pier Village, just across the street from our Island office. Cost is $5 per ticket. Tailgating begins at noon. The first in The Coastal Symphony of Georgia 2010-2011 season series, Music of the Royals: The United Kingdom, is sure to be a crowd pleaser!
Monday, October 18, 2010 at 8:00 pm at the Glynn Academy Memorial Auditorium
Music will include works by Britten, Handel, Grainger and Elgar.
Guest Conductor Dr. Simons Shaio is a string professor and conductor of the University of North Florida Orchestra. A versatile violinist, he has performed at Carnegie Hall as a recitalist, and with both string quartet and orchestra. As a conductor of the UNF Orchestra, Dr. Shiao present a wide array of concerts each year, and has worked with several international orchestras in Taiwan and Belize, performing at the National Concert Hall of Taiwan and Bliss Centre in Belize.
Guest artist, Vernon Humbert, studied cello at Easter Illinois University and the University of Illinois. He has preformed with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, and has served as assistant principal cellist in Jacksonville Symphony for ten years and section cellist for almost twenty years. His teaches include Donald Tracy, Gabriel Majyar, Robert Swensen and Laurien Laughman. He has taught chamber music at the Summertios Festival for a number of years and is one of the founds of the Prelude Chamber Music Camp held in Jacksonville, teaching chamber music to string players.
The inaugural McGladrey Classic, played this past weekend on St. Simons Island, concluded with a win by Heath Slocum. In what would be Slocum’s fourth career win, he finished 14 under and won a prize of $720,000. Thousands turned out for the event over the course of 4-days. And the weather couldn’t have been any nicer… rain free with temperatures in the mid 80′s. Many thank you’s to Davis Love III for bringing the PGA to St. Simons Island!
Hosted by Davis Love III, The McGladrey Classic official PGA Tour golf tournament will be played on the Seaside golf course at Sea Island, Georgia this week.
The McGladrey Classic will host nine previous Major winners, including:

The event begins Wednesday with the Pro-Am. Tournament play begins Thursday, October 7 and concludes on Sunday, October 10.
