The St. Simons Island Land Trust has been diligently working to raise the funding necessary to purchase the old stables corner, located at the intersection of Frederica Road and Sea Island road. Until recently, the old stables corner was slated for commercial development. The Land Trust plans to preserve the gorgeous natural live oaks on the corner…. 49 to be exact. Early last spring, an angel donor came forward with nearly half the required funding. The Land Trust then launched a campaign to raise the remaining $2.6 million needed. The campaign is expected to reach its goal by the end of the year. To contribute, please visit http://sslt.org/index.html

Join the United Way of Coastal Georgia for their 2010 campaign kickoff event, The Wrecking Ball. Be among the last to celebrate at the old aquarama on Jekyll Island. Home to many local events, including decades of proms and graduations, the former convention center is destined to be torn down this fall.  To commemorate its passing, the United Way has organized one last dance. With entertainment from the Class of 69′ Reunion Band, O.S.K.A.R RockHammer, and Mason Waters & The Groove Allstars, this event promises to be an evening to remember. Tickets are $35 per individual or $60 per couple. Dress is “your favorite aquarama memory,” so anything goes… from cap and gown to old prom attire. For tickets, click here.

relay-2008aFor the third year in a row, Hodnett Cooper is the presenting partner for Glynn County’s Relay for Life fundraiser. 2010 Marks the 16th Annual Relay for Life event in Glynn County.

Annually, Glynn County contributes more than $400,000 towards the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.

Please join us and our community for a lap around the track at 7:00 pm, Friday April 23 at the Glynn County Fairgrounds in Brunswick, Georgia.  We welcome the entire community!

We would like to officially invite you to attend the 3rd Annual Rockstar Karaoke: A Benefit for the American Cancer Society, this Friday, April 9th 6:00-9:00pm at Ziggy Mahoney’s. Don’t let the title fool you…This isn’t karaoke to pre-recorded tracks. It is real LIVE performances with a full band.  A group of locals have volunteered to pick a song, rehearse it, and sing it in front of a live crowd in order to raise money for a GREAT CAUSE! This year the theme is “Georgia On My Mind”. Performers were free to pick any genre, any time period, any artist, and any song…..as long as the artist or writer was from Georgia or the song was about Georgia. You’re gonna love this year’s show!  Make sure you get there early so that you get a good seat. Last year’s event was packed!

After each performance a bucket will be sent out into the audience to collect “votes” (dollars). The Rockstar(s) that collect the most money will be crowned the 2010 Rockstar Karaoke Champion. Please bring a fist full of dollars and come support your favorite local rockstar! This is a great charity event and is sure to be a lot of fun.
